This is the thread to suggest ideas for the forum, new features, discuss forum politics and all the like. If we decide that a particular suggestion warrants a discussion thread of its own, we'll make one.
This is the SMF mod site (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php), if you're interested in possible features that we could implement. Just make sure that before you suggest a mod, it's compatible with SMF version 2.0.
Skins and themes are here. (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/) Again, make sure that they're compatible.
As for everything else, the sky is the limit. It's strongly encouraged to share if you feel you have an idea of what's good for the community. Even if you're unsure, it doesn't hurt one bit to start a conversation.

I'm an admin because it's my domain and my server, and Shy is an admin because he knows his way around SMF very well. I honestly don't think we need admins outside of me and Shy, unless anyone has serious objections to that. Especially since admins are just mods with tech powers.
As for moderation staff, we have no need for them yet. Once we have more members (hopefully soon), we will handle the assignment of moderation. You raise a very fair point, the reason we left NSider was due to them not listening to their members, which is something we hope to achieve with this site.

Fair enough, but I was mainly talking about for down the line when the community gets big enough for such things to be a necessity.

Ehhh, I wasn't really fond of it being that way. Kinda got old. Maybe we could mix it up making it like NS2's and TRoU's? Like having you post a certain amount to get different ranks, then once you get to the highest one, you can make it whatever. I dunno, just an idea.

I like it, anything to give point to clicking on someone's profile would be good.

I'm against the My Media section. I hate going on someone's profile and having music blaring out, especially when I'm listening to music myself. Everything else is fine.

The About Me and the My Interests sections seem a bit redundant. Generally, you don't need both. I feel like you could just keep the About Me part and cut out the My Interests as people usually put their interests in their About Me anyway.
And the huge white space under the Buddies section is a huge waste of page space. If you can move the signature/local time bubble up under the My Buddies section, it should take up that extra space pretty well and then the comments section can get moved up so there;s not a huge white space.
And if it's possible, perhaps making the comments collapsible. It would help reduce the page size, but still be accessible to people who want to read them.

I'd be reluctant to add something like that because this is Sean's father's server and he doesn't exactly... know about this forum's existence. It's not a bad idea, but I'd like to keep the usage of server space as low as possible.

considering removing the "appear anonymous" option on the basis that if someone sees that they're the only one online, they're a lot less likely to make a post than if they see a lot of people are on. any objections?

there's an "always stay logged in" button.
as for board organization: there are other things under the boards heading, they're just not public.
even more so the reason to bring the two boards together. the fucks the point if the "public" can't see the other boards? it's like putting the sage board under power on, we don't need to see that shit. separate that shit, that's why it's hidden.

Can we make it so every user is able to choose between a text based member title or an small image/icon similar to Shev's.
I think it would be neat and definitely gives users just 1 more customization feature and being able to customize is always fun.
Also it would save those who can't think of anything to put in their custom member titles.
Having your own little logo their would be neat, think of it as a member's trademark or something cat;

Limit each users to 1 every one or two month period?
If there is absolutely no way to make it so we can just change them at will.
1 month is definitely tolerable, 2 months if 1 month is a hassle.

Well, the icons have to be made by someone and then either me or shev will have to upload them and prepare the rank.

Boayh has this thing where you can upload your own "rank image" if it's the right dimensions. (Or you have to upload it elsewhere and use a link to it)
Though they have it tied to a shop mod and you have to "pay" a lot to get it.

I don't think that's possible with the current mod we use. It's pretty dated, but it's the only one left that lets us use simple [youtube] embed codes. I'm looking into installing this (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=977). Embed codes won't work the same way, but it does support a lot more video sites than just youtube. Will probably be better for us in the long run.
Also, if Sean ever reads this: still need that FTP access. y;

Darn, well it isn't even a big issue anyways. Just a little minor hindrance when embedding.

Check your settings, it might not be saving stuff to your outbox. Mine works just fine but I think I may have changed the settings from the default.

Modify Profile>Personal Messaging> Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default.
Which it seems like on any SMF site I've signed up on is always unchecked by default.

because it's just a word filter, not an actual script
